Political Morocco is a politically stable country. It is a constitutional monarchy, led by King Mohamed VI who came to the throne in 1999. The EU granted Morocco Advanced Status in 2008, testifying to their strong economic and political ties.
Mohammed VI (Arabic: محمد السادس; Berber languages: ⴰⴳⵍⵍⵉⴷ ⵎⵓⵃⴰⵎⵎⴷ ⵙⴷⵉⵙ agllid muhammd sdis; born 21 August 1963) is King of Morocco. He belongs to the Alaouite dynasty and ascended to the throne on 23 July 1999 upon the death of his father, King Hassan II.
1912 – Morocco becomes a French protectorate under the Treaty of Fez. 1956 – End of French protectorate after unrest and strong nationalist sentiment. Spain keeps its two coastal enclaves. Sultan Mohammed becomes king in 1957.

On 7 April 1956, France officially relinquished its protectorate in Morocco . The abolition of the Spanish protectorate and the recognition of Moroccan independence by Spain were negotiated separately and made final in the Joint Declaration of April 1956.
Today , Morocco’s government is a constitutional monarchy with Mohammed VI as the current king. The government of Morocco is organized out into the three branches. While Mohammed VI has been the King of Morocco since 1999, the prime minister is the person who heads the government.
