In truth, Morocco is a safe place to visit . There’s only really small crime there (scams and pickpockets) and you’re unlikely to be assaulted or seriously hurt as a tourist in the country. Morocco is super safe for tourists now.
The ferry crossing from Algeciras to Ceuta is operated by 3 companies, both of which take roughly 1 hour. The prices for the FRS, Trasmediterranea and Balearia sailings are roughly 35 euros for a foot passenger, but you can take a vehicle too.
there are no ferries from Portugal , but from Spain: Algeciras – Tanger, Tarifa – Tanger, Algeciras – Ceuta, Malaga – Melilla, Almeria – Melilla/Nador.
This channel (referred to as a strait) is called the Strait of Gibraltar. The Strait of Gibraltar has Spain and Gibraltar on the European side and Morocco and Ceuta on the African side.
Living on Gibraltar is expensive , both in terms of housing and eating and drinking, far more so than in Spain. Living across the border in Spain will reduce your cost of living enormously. Lots of people work on Gib and live in Spain for those reasons.
Is Tangier worth visiting ? If you’re nearby than certainly it’s well worth a visit as it has a distinctly unique feel you won’t find elsewhere in Morocco. However, if you won’t be near the city it may not really be worth the time to reach it.

5 Answers. The closest point is Tarifa or Algeciras. From Tarifa you can see Africa ( Morocco ), but be aware it is quite a distance and you weill not see too much. This is a more convenient and less expensive option than travelling down to Gibraltar, Tarifa or Algeciras if you are staying in the Málaga area.
